Best in Show

I am so being punished.

...Maddie. Did I... forget your birthday? I am sorry. I am so so sorry. You can kill me if you want. It's okay. Oh man. Gee.

Today is geeky because The Simpsons is up against Lost for Best in Show on Hulu... and they are LOSING. Go! Vote! Do not let this happen!

Disney fact: I am moving soon. and in my new house, there will be Disney movies. Word.

stresssss

Also, when was the last time someone posted? We are bad at this guys. We need to set up a system for remembering.

3-19-10 Maddie is birthday!

:D Thanks for the birthday wishes, you guys! My birthday ROCKED, I got lots and lots of monies. Ich liebe monies so viel! (Meaning I love monies so much, for Olivia). I'm going out to the movies with some friends tonight, so that's going to be super fun. I'm hoping to purchase a Pokemon Heart Gold game so that I can play with Basia :D and the rest of you should get HG or Soul Silver too, even if you don't have a DS! You should also get a DS! (And that is why today is geeky).
And, this is totally random, but if any of you have any nerdy video game friends who play DS games and play the game Animal Crossing: Wild World, could you please ask them to hook me up with some friend codes? It's one of my favorite games but I have NO ONE to play it with.

See you guys!

Today is geeky because I'm reading My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead and wanting to go live in the woods and eat... woods food.

Today I learned very little, because I stayed home from school sick. But what I did learn was that if John Redcorn lays one unprofessional hand on Peggy, Hank is gonna kick his ass. That's right. I've been watching tv.

Disney Fact: Before Mickey Mouse, there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He was a wildly unattractive rabbit, if one were willing to go find a picture of him. I would supply a link, but jeez, that sounds like *effort.*

BYE!

stuffs

So today is geeky because I'm studying Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley who was this badass poet.

Also, because GLEE IS ON! It's a rerun, but that does not matter to me.

I don't have much to say. I had a fabulous birthday. I'm so glad some of you could stop by. (ahem, MADDIE.) Suzie brought her boyfriend, who I didn't like before, but now I really do. He's very nice to her, and I can tell they care about each other a lot, and that is all that is important.

I got some great gifts. *pokes Bazi and my friend who will not be named.* I fell in love with the dance that Johny Depp did at the end of Alice in Wonderland.

I need to get back to work. This is the last week of the quarter and I'm STRESSED.

What else is new?

Ree.

Disney fact: the entire walt disney world resort? bigger than manhattan.

3/3/10 JETS

Before anyone asks, I have absolutely no clue what JETS stands for. But it's an engineering competition.

I think last week I promised a video the intentional epic fail we were planning for the egg-drop contest. Two problems: only two of my team members were there when we were called, and IT DIDN'T FAIL. I mean, really. A watermelon is thrown from a thirty-foot-tall bridge, and it doesn't break (although the egg inside did). Wtf. How is that possible? We got third out of eight in testing, though. Still, I was really looking forward to seeing a cottage-cheese-and-tomato-filled watermelong exploding.

Today's geeky because, dur, I'm at an ENGINEERING COMPETITION. I did learn a few things, however:

1.) 1 minute = 60 seconds. In one of the tests, they actually gave us that under the "things you might need to know" section. My friend Chase wrote "no way!" right next to it.
2.) You can cut a watermelon in half with scissors.
3.) Only about 65% of people will pay attention to you when you dash stealthily through the halls while blarin Mission Impossible on portable speakers.
4.) A group of eight people can eat a bag of pretzels, a bag of chips, a box of donuts, eight cokes, and a box of gushers, fruit rollups, and fruit by the foots in under three hours, while working diligiently on ridiculously hard math problems.

Welcome to JETS, where we learn wonderful, intelligent things.

Basia's tomorrow! Peace out.

Much Ado About Nothing

Today is geeky because WE'RE MAKING PLANS TO SEE ALICE IN WONDERLAND!

I'd like to write about birthdays today, seeing as mine is this Sunday. I don't feel 15 anymore, even though I technically still am. I didn't overnight just start feeling 16, like how I thought I always would the morning of my birthdays when I was little. Maybe this is due to some (mild) recent changes in my lifestyle. For instance, my friend Mackenzie painted my nails, and now I kind of like it, even though at the time I was kind of squirmy. I feel fancy. :p. Also, I obsess even more than usual over college.

I really want to go to college.

Fo' shiz.
Ree.

(Oh, remember when fo shiz was cool too?)

(OhOhOh, POKEMON. I've been playing like, twenty minutes every night. You always win against the wild pokemon, and winning is a stress reliever for me. I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH.)

(How I view the SATs in Poke-speak.
A wild SAT math question appears! Reese uses a calculator! It isn't very effective. The wild SAT math question uses Algebra 2! It's very effective! Reese fainted!)

(shamelessly stolen from failbooking.com. go there. live it. love it. drink your juice.)

2/26/10 Maddie has annoying brothers.

Alright, we're literally in the middle of a conference chat AS I TYPE THIS (well, Olivia and Maya and I) so I must make this quick. I don't think any of last weeks stats have changed except that MAYA HAS NO MORE FREE PASSEItalicS :D :D :D This excites me because if she misses ONE MORE UPDATE she has to do a PUNISHMENT!!!! And I have wanted to punish someone so.
Alright, today is geeky because I finished two books today, What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones and The Treasure Map of Boys by E. Lockhart. Both excellent books and both important stepping stones on my way to fifty books this year. WMMDK is one of my favorites, too, but only hand-in-hand with its sequel, What My Girlfriend Doesn't Know. Now I'm rereading Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. Nerdy fun!
Right now I'm at my grandparents' house, using their shiny Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and a built-in webcam and Skype application. :3 It is very nice. I wish I had my own laptop. :(
Okay, that's all for now because it's hard to blog and have like three simultaneous Skype chats.
Happy Friday!
Maddie

2/24/10 Hey look, I remembered on my own this week

I didn't need a reminder text from Maddie to remember to post today. I'm proud of myself.

I actually learned something interesting at school today! In chemistry we watched a video about these neat little things called Bloom Boxes. Basically, they're these smallish boxes that you can put in your backyard that have fuel cells made out of sand (wtf?!). They're wireless but can power your whole house for thirty years. Plus they're cheap and energy efficient. No one has them yet except some big corporations (Google was the first to get them because Google owns the world), but supposedly everyone will have them in the next ten years ago. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to get one of these babies. I love the future.

Hm, what else... I've been driving a lot, including the highway. I've also been driving to school all week, and although I ran into the curb and went really slow on Monday, I've been doing really well. Let me tell you, there's something strangely satisfying about driving yourself to Dunkin' Donuts and buying a donut.

Also, I was invited to join our school's JV JETS team, which is a team that goes to a math science-y competition. We take tests and compete in an egg-drop contest, meaning we design something to put an egg in and then drop it thirty feet onto a target, hoping the egg doesn't break. We're working on two designs; one should work, and we're testing it tomorrow. The other we're purposefully making a disaster so we can get the Messiest award, which isn't generally considered a good thing, but hell, we're not going to get an award otherwise, so we're going for it. I'm not saying much, since I'll be posting a video of the actual contest next Wednesday, which is when it happens, but it involves a watermelon. Oh, and we're dressing up, possibly as Na'vi. Be jealous.

That's it for this week. Tune in tomorrow for Basia.

*was in Disney World*

Today is geeky because why today is geeky and my Disney fact are the same. I HUGGED BUZZ LIGHTYEAR AND IT WAS AWESOME.

It occurs to me that we will ALL be on eteam this year, and will therefore be too busy during the summer to blog. Just saying.

Congratulatons on your exams Maddie!
And Bazi! I am so feeling you on that chemist thing. How boring are they? Super boring.

I feel the need to go force myself to do my homework. Starting is the hardest part, know what I mean?

*is going off to read Frankenstein* (Quick plot summary: oooh, I made a monster! It's dark out! I haven't seen the monster for awhile so the sun is shining! Oh no! There's the monster! Listen to that thunder! The monster is leaving me alone! The sky is so blue!)

2/19/10 Maddie had exams today.

Yes, girls, the title says it all. And the exams were CAKE. Open book and shit. It was nice. I got 100 on Arts and Humanities, 100 on World Civ, and then I have no idea what I got on Algebra but I'm pretty sure it was high grade.
BTW, here's the free pass count: Reese has ONE free pass left, Oliva has ONE free pass left, Basia has FOUR free passes left, I have FOUR free passes left. It's my understanding that Suzie is no longer being counted.
Let's see, I believe today is geeky because I managed to engage five of my friends in an epic conversation about new technologies, like how on tobi.com you can use your webcam and some augmented reality fun times to TRY ON DRESSES :D It's supremely awesome.
Stuff like that.
I'm super excited because tomorrow is my friend Lizz's birthday party. She rented out this club house type place and she invited like 120 people from our class and it's FORMAL WEAR and I am really excited about it. Except I'm pretty sure my parents want me to wear make-up and crap and I don't want to and it's going to be this whole ordeal and just UGH.
Alright well I don't really know what else to say. I'm trying to get back into anime so if Basia and/or Suzie could give me some recommendations that's be awesome.
Peace

2/17/10 Happy Wednesday?

Good afternoon, everyone. Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day and whatnot.

So today is geeky because I'm typing this from my Blackberry. While reading a chenistry textbook. In chemistry class. I'm a rebel.

I'm really not absorbing the information from my textbook at all, and it's not just because I'm typing up a blog post while reading it. I like chemistry a lot, but the stuff we've been learning lately... meh. It's not even chemistry. It's history. "Old Dead Chemists", as my (chemist) mother calls it. Honestly, I really don't give a damn about J.J. Thomson or Albert Einstein. I'd rather learn about atoms and do actual science and mathy stuff. And I'm not even a mathy person, I just hate the crap we're learning right now.

So, that's my rant/blog post for the week. I think it's short again, but I'm not sure. It's hard to tell on such a tiny screen. See you tomorrow for Basia's post!

2/12/10 Maddie has the coolest earrings.

They are ZIPPERS. And not just any zippers. NEON GREEN ones. Yeah, I'm a badass.
Today is geeky because I spent most of the day playing Okami, the best video game ever. Also because as soon as I'm done reading webcomics and writing this I will be painting my nails while watching Princess Mononoke.
Alright, so apparently Suzie is no longer doing this blog thing, to which I respond with two points. One, we need a replacement, and two, we should probably take her name off the sidebar. Also, we should probably put the sidebar in order of week. Just saying.
Reese, I know exactly what you are talking about with the college e-mails. My inbox is FLOODED with them. They're mildly hilarious.
And these snow days have been WICKED. I love not going to school. This trimester needs to just be OVER. I'm looking forward to finals next week to be perfectly honest. Oh, shit, I just realized I have to write a paper. GAH.
I'm gonna go do that. Peace out, girl scouts.

2/10/10 Snow Days

Today is my second one in a row. Snow day, that is. My school is pretty stingy when it comes to closing school, so this is a special treat for me.

Anyway. This is my first blog post. I haven't exactly been good at keeping up with this stuff because 1.) life sucks, 2.) I'm not good at keep up with stuff in general, and 3.) seriously, life sucks. Well, not really, but school has been giving me a pretty hard time lately. Tests, homework, and quizzes galore. This week has been nice, but then again, it's been a one-day week so far.

Soooo Maddie says my day is geeky because I watched Whip It with her, so let's talk about that, shall we? I was going to see this movie in theaters (damn, why do I always type that as "theatres"? Thank god Firefox has spell check), but I completely forgot, so I went to Maddie's today to watch it and it was amazinngggg. I'd say I want to be in a roller derby now, but I'm too much of a wimp. I mean, really. I'm in the marching band. I play clarinet in the marching band. I don't know if you know this, but that is the wimpiest instrument ever created. It requires absolutely no strength. Even flutes are less wimpy; at least you have to hold them up.

I can't really think of anything else to add, so sorry for the short post? Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, Basia. Peace.

College

Do you guy ever get those GEEKY emails from colleges? You're the kind of student we want at ___! Good job on your high schoool accomplishments! yadayada I would be really flattered about the amount of letters I got if a) wasn't signed up on college board and b) they actually knew something about me.

WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT ME?

Now for a college to really be productive about this kind of thing, they need to hire a ninja. That is where I come in. I have experience in the ways of the ninja. Wouldn't it pack so much more punch if the letter said We love students that show such a passion for ______, like you! I could fill in that blank.

Just like I will be tomorrow for my religion test. 40 fill in the blank. Bring it on, Moses and the Exodus.

DID YOU KNOW: that in Tomorrowland in Disney, there is a talking trashcan? Because there is. And it is amazing.

I'm unsure of who I'll be reading tomorrow. But I will be reading you. Whoever you are. Olivia? Yes. OLIVIA. I WILL READ WHAT YOU WRITE TOMORROW.

2/5/10 Maddie is watching the snow fall.

Hey girlies! I am posting my very first blog post on our Geek Girls blog, yay!
BTW, I'm going to keep a running count of how many free passes we've used because I am longing to give people punishments. So far everyone should have five videos and/or blog posts, except for me, as this is my sixt post (I'm just going to refer to them as posts).
Suzie has one video; she has used FOUR free passes. She has one more until she gets punished.
Reese has two videos, plus one blog post which doesn't count because it was a day late; she has used THREE free passes. She has two more until she gets punished.
Olivia has one video; she has used FOUR free passes. She has one more until she gets punished.
Basia has FIVE videos; she is ON TOP OF IT and has FIVE free passes because she is a BEAST.
I have FOUR videos plus this blog; I have used ONE free pass. I have four more until I get punished.
Just so you guys know, I use caps a lot. I apologise. I speak with emphasis.
And, Reese, just so you know, the rules of videos still apply to blogs, so you still have to say something you learned and/or something geeky. Disney facts aren't enough unless you JUST learned the fact THAT DAY, in which case you must say so. And they don't qualify as something geeky; that's like saying, "Today is geeky because I wrote this blog and included a Disney fact." It does not count. You guys, should we let her off with a warning? Make her use a pass for this? Or punish her? Let me know!
As for me, today is geeky because I've been trying DESPERATELY to find a free Internet version of the Dollhouse pilot episode Epitaph One because I REFUSE to watch Epitaph Two, the final episode of the series, until I have seen it, and I CAN'T FIND IT ARGH
Today I learned how to play Pork & Beans by Weezer on the guitar. :3 That song has a great video. Also a very positive message: "I am who I am and I like who I am and I really don't care about what you think about me." It's a good message.
In other news, I want you all to read this webcomic with me, and THAT INCLUDES YOU OLIVIA (the reason I yell at Olivia is because she has fallen behind in reading this comic). Start it from the beginning because it is so so so so so so so good.
That's really all that I have to say except for that people have been pissing me off a great deal lately and I don't want to turn into a cynical ass. :( Conan says that's bad and I believe Conan so... yeah.
Hey, we should Skype, you guys. Let's plan that.
Alright, later! Suzie I shall see you on Monday possibly (probably not though)!
HEY REESE YOU DIDN'T CLOSE THE BLOG PROPERLY another thing to take into consideration for a possible punishment.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

What do you mean today isn't Tuesday?

Who totally forgot that Tuesday was her day to make a video or blog? That would be me, my friends. ME. *sigh*

Do what you will. I don't care!

Disney fun fact: There's a Disney University. No joke. It's an internship program. I plan to apply when I'm in college. It's pretty much my life goal.

I'm going to blog today about parent teacher conferences. On the whole, I really really like them. My teachers tend to like me and my mom likes to know how I'm doing. This was not one of those times. Imagine this...

Teacher: The big problem is that she misses a lot of school. She's sick a lot.
Mom: Well she's certainly not faking it. She had that H1N1. You can't fake that.
Me: I don't actually think I have the acting skills to fake being sick. That takes real talent.
Teacher: Well I know you have the skills. Aren't you in the play?
Me: No, I didn't get a part last time and not getting in two times in a row would be pretty detrimental to my self esteem.
Mom: She wouldn't fake sick anyway. Not my daughter.
Teacher: Well she would.

This is a WHAT THE HELL MAN? kind of moment, don't you think? WHAT IS HE THINKING? MERPH. He's probably just mad he has to hike it up to the attic of the school to get me a new lab notebook. I spilled copper sulfate all over mine. Good times. I used to think Harry Potter was a total whiner, and that potions class couldn't be that hard. Chemistry is our equivalent, and now I take it back, seeing as I couldn't handle a very simple experiment. I blame the boy who was touching a battery to steel wool. It was cool and it distracted me.

And with that, my dear friends, I will leave you. Also, I leave you with the knowledge that my cat is cute. He's purring. (His name is Captain Jack Sparrow, Jack for short.)
